Valley’s Kelli Moore named 2019 Character Counts Coach of the Year
Kelli Moore, head girls’ golf coach and assistant girls’ basketball and volleyball coach at Valley High School, is the 2019 recipient of the Character Counts Coach of the Year award.Moore will be recognized March 1 during halftime of the Iowa high school state girls’ basketball tournament’s Class 3A title game at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The award is presented jointly by The Robert D. and Billie Ray Center, the Iowa Sports Foundation (Iowa Games), and the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union. This is the 16th year of the award, which validates a high standard of character and ethics Moore displays.“Kelli is the most caring and giving person around and this act of kindness does not surprise me,” said Brad Rose, Valley athletics and activities director. “We are so proud and thankful to have her on our staff.”Moore, who also teaches special education at Valley, is “beyond honored and humbled” for this award.“My goal from the start of my career is to make each season the best for the kids involved,” she said. “I learned early on that building relationships was the best way for me to help kids reach their goals. While winning is something everyone wants to do, I learned long ago that there are many more important things than winning.”Moore added how lucky she is to have worked with “some amazing kids in a variety of sports.”“They have definitely taught me more than I could teach them,” she said. “This award is more about all of the student-athletes I have been fortunate to work with over the years. The school and athletic environment has brought out the best in me, based on the interactions I have had with so many wonderful individuals and teams.”Please join us in congratulating Moore for this incredible accomplishment!Congrats Coach Moore pic.twitter.com/IHdDq0ro7Y ...
