Softball: Valley Advances To Class 5A State Tournament
The Valley High School varsity softball team qualified for next week’s Class 5A Iowa high school state softball tournament after defeating Des Moines Hoover 6-1 Tuesday in a regional final.
This is the 17th time in program history Valley has made it to state. It’s also the Tigers’ seventh straight state softball tournament berth under head coach Tom Bakey.
Valley’s most recent state softball championship came in 2010.
The Tigers (29-10) are the No. 7 seed and will face second-seeded Fort Dodge in the quarterfinals of the 5A state softball tournament at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23. All state softball tournament games are hosted at Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.

Valley Tiger Select Boys' Basketball Tryouts Aug. 5-6
Incoming eighth-graders who are serious about basketball can try out for the Valley Tiger Select boys' basketball team. Here is what you need to know:
When: Aug. 5-6, 5:30-7:30 p.m. (you attend both nights)
Where: Valley High School—Fieldhouse
Cost: Free Tryout
What: Two teams of 10-12 kids chosen will practice two times during the week starting in late October through early February. During that time, teams will also play about eight competitive tournaments on weekends. This runs adjacent to the school program so kids WILL NOT have to choose which team they play for, they can do both. In January and February, the Tiger Select teams will practice once a week outside of daily school basketball practices.
This is not an AAU program — this is a true Valley High School feeder program. The selected players begin learning the Valley system and language that is used in the high school program through the practices. Please note that not everyone who tries out will be chosen.
